Mobile Monday Spain is proud to announce its partnership with the Vodafone Mobile Clicks competition. For the first time, Spanish mobile startups can now compete with other European companies in this competition.

We’d like to call all the talented startups in mobile in our network in Spain to participate! Read below for details to participate to the competition, deadline is June 12!

Vodafone Mobile Clicks is an international contest to identify and develop the best, most innovative mobile internet start-ups.  Announced at The Next Web Conference in Amsterdam, the closing date for entries is midnight CET on 12th June, 2011.

Already known as the biggest start-up competition of its kind, this year’s Vodafone Mobile Clicks is open to seven markets. Any start-up in Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, Spain, Turkey or the United Kingdom that has a mobile site, service or application can compete for the €225,000 prize fund.

Judging will take place over three rounds. Firstly, each competing market will draw up a shortlist of their five best submissions, then a local winner will be selected. Lastly, all seven local winners will be invited to represent their country in a live final at the PICNIC festival in the Netherlands on 15^th – 16^th September 2011, where the overall winner will be chosen.

This year’s high-profile judges include Rudy de Waele, founder of Mobile 2.0 Europe and dotopen; Peter Barry, Head of VC and Start-up at Vodafone Ventures; Paul Jozefak, Managing Partner at Mobile VC; Reshma Sohoni, Partner at Seedcamp, and Lee Epting, Director of Content Services at Vodafone Group. Each judge will score entries based on five criteria:

1. Originality, creativity and innovativeness
2. Technical and operational feasibility
3. Economic and financial viability
4. Value to end-users
5. The quality of the management team (e.g. their experience, knowledge, skills, relationships)

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain expert feedback for your entry, both qualitatively and quantitatively from all of the jury members. And if your entry reaches the finals, then you’ll also benefit from our extensive PR and coverage.

After the great success of the first Mobile Design Session during the Barcelona Design Week 2009, this year we present the first Mobile Design Conference an interactive one-day conference inviting professionals to discuss and co-create around the theme of “the networked city”. Speakers include: Kevin Slavin, Matt Jones, Usham Haque, Fabien Girardin and with special a participation by Liz Sanders.

Morning Conference: Designing for the Networked City

Knowing that currently more then 80 % of Europeans live in cities urges us to better understand how these new mobile ecosystems work. Particularly navigating the complex relationships between mobile technologies, infrastructure, private and public stakeholders becomes increasingly important for any designer working in this space.

For this second Mobile Design Conference, we’re inviting some of the most forward-thinking leaders in Mobile, Co-Creation, and Urban Design who will share their view on the role of design in an increasingly complex ecosystem and the challenges they see lying ahead: designing mobile services for a total mobile user city experience, respecting the needs of the user within her environment.

Afternoon Workshop – MDC Lab: Co-Creating for the Networked City

This years’ Mobile Design Conference is proud to present the MDC Lab: a co-creation workshop lead by Liz Sanders with expert participation of the Mobile Design Conference speakers Kevin Slavin, Matt Jones, Usham Haque, Fabien Girardin.

In this unique opportunity, you will interact with some of the industry’s leading innovators co-creating 2D and 3D visualizations of ideas and challenges around the future of networked urbanism. Combined with the industry insight of our speakers you will experience state of the art user centered design methodologies. This workshop is aimed at professionals interested in the outlook and potential of Mobile Technologies and Urban Living

With 20 excellent nominees (5 for each competing country), the jury had a lot of difficulty to decide on the four finalists that will be invited to represent their country in a live final at PICNIC Festival, which will be held in the Netherlands on September 24th.

The four finalists that are still competing for the €150,000 total prize fund are:

Netherlands (Akvo Phone): A mobile application that allows live field-reporting for development aid project workers. Akvo Phone allows reports including pictures, text, phone identity, geographic location (GPS) and time stamp to be remotely submitted, freeing up time for field workers to get on with their jobs. Portugal (Cardmobili): A comprehensive collection of membership and loyalty cards is gathered through crowd-sourcing as well as comprehensive searches of loyalty programs and then sent to the customer’s mobile phone. The digitalisation of opt-in loyalty cards, coupons and vouchers gives customers convenient and easy access to relevant purchase offers. Visit their website.

Spain (MALCOM): A mobile application lifecycle management system which is a revolution both for publishers and developers. The service – accessed through a simple web interface – takes the complexity, time and cost out of managing, updating and rolling out mobile applications, making it much more straightforward for application developers to manage their work. UK (Roulette Cricket): Part of a new wave of mobile entertainment, so-called ‘2nd screen gaming’ gives fans a new way to engage with their favourite sport. Roulette Cricket is designed to be played whilst watching live sport, either at the ground, on TV or online, also allowing fans conveniently to place bets or friendly wagers via their mobile device. Like it or not Apps are here, there and everywhere these days. Apps seem to have finally made content and services accessible to the mobile masses and of course it is a gold rush to the small screens.

While the developers and major industry players are finetuning their relationships to populate the App Stores and attract customers, some of the major consumer brands are starting to build interesting and challenging mobile apps to create more engagement with their customers.

Israel Ferrer, Business Developer of Bubiloop.com and founder of and.roid.es the biggest Android community in Spain will showcase trovit homes android application and explain his opinion on why brands have to take a look at Android.
